Limp, dry hair can be a sign of hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid gland, where your thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones, slowing down your metabolism. Other signs of hypothyroidism can be sudden weight gain, unexplained fatigue and cold all the time.
The average person loses about 100 hairs a day . This hair loss is normal. But if you feel it start to considerably thinner if your hair is starting to come out in clumps, it may be a sign that something is up (or in this case, out). Sometimes, hair loss can be attributed to a recent stressor, such as divorce or loss of a job. Another sign of a more serious problem would be dry, brittle hair that breaks easily. Your hair is made up of a protein called keratin, and if you do not have enough protein in your diet, it can weaken it. This may be another telltale sign of a thyroid problem.
